Historic Perry

Carroll Street circa 1930 looking east from the intersection of US Highways 41 and 341.
Trees grace the unpaved street and hitching post of the past have given way to automobile
parking places.

The same view of Carroll Street circa 1945. Trees can be seen in the distance but have disappeared
from Carroll Street.  The soda fountains of the Rexall Drug store on the left and Walgreens on the right were a favorite after school stops for Perry High School students.

Circa 1945, the old brick courthouse would soon be replaced and the lovely shade of the trees disappear as well.  The classic Confederate Monument was a favorite gathering site for Perry's gentlemen who meet to discuss the issues of the day.

The New Perry Hotel has long been the grand dame of Perry.  This building replaced the original Perry Hotel which dated back to Perry's stagecoach days.  The Hotel renowned  for its traditional Southern hospitality and it's dining room for its classic regional dishes lured travelers and locals alike.

The old Killen family home on Main Street has built in ? .   It was later purchased by the Penn-Dixie Cement Company to house its plant superintendent and was later used as the company club house. The old home is currently owned by Watson-Hunt Funeral Home.
